The Australian Photoageing re.port

Welcome to the inaugural re.think skin report on photoageing in Australia. This report presents findings from a nationwide survey of Australians’ awareness of photoageing and its impact on their well-being.

Photoageing impacts more than just skin health; it can also affect confidence andself-esteem.1 Yet, many people overlook photoageing as a treatable condition, and miss chances to prevent this from occurring and address these concerns with their doctor.

Sun-induced ageing can accelerate visible signs of ageing, making skin appear older than natural ageing alone.2 Photoageing is a notable concern in Australia due to high UV levels, outdoor lifestyle and the popularity of tanning.3 Indeed, a study has reported Australian women have signs of facial ageing up to 20 years earlier than women living in the US.4

By educating Australians on the differences between natural and sun-induced ageing, we hope to encourage them to take preventative action and have proactive conversations with their doctor, empowering informed choices that support both skin health and confidence.

The Australasian Society of Cosmetic Dermatologists (ASCD) recognises the significance of this survey in raising disease awareness around photoageing and its impact on skin health in Australia.
